Summer Tax Deferment
Summer tax deferments without penalty or interest (if paid in full by the due date of the winter taxes) is available to those who meet certain criteria as defined by federal income tax guidelines. The following are the criteria that must be met to qualify for the summer tax deferment:
- Individual had a total household income of $40,000 or less (per income tax filed during the previous year) AND
- Is 62 years of age or older or the surviving spouse of a person who was 62 or older at death, OR
- Is totally & permanently disabled, blind, paraplegic, quadriplegic, eligible serviceperson, veteran or qualifying widow/er. Applications for a summer tax deferment must be filed in the Treasurer’s Office by September 15th and is available only for taxes billed for the principal residence of the taxpayer.
The deferment application can be filled out and brought already completed, or one can be printed at the Treasurer’s Office.
