LOCAL OFFICERS COMPENSATION COMMMISSION
MINUTES

APPROVAL OF MINUTES.
 
Minutes from the January 24th meeting were reviewed.  Motion by George Coffman, seconded by Matt Kooiman, to approve 1/24/2017 LOCC Meeting Minutes.  None opposed, motion carried.
 
DISCUSSION REGARDING WAGES OF MAYOR.
 
Discussion ensued regarding ICMA certification and how it is not available to elected officials.  The LOCC members discussed extra compensation if the Mayor holds a master’s degree in any field.
 
Motion by Matt Kooiman, seconded by Nadia Brigham, to recommend to City Commission to increase the Mayor’s salary by 5% effective July 1, 2017 and 2% again effective July 1, 2018 and provide an additional 1% on top of the aforementioned increases if the Mayor holds a master’s degree in any field.  None opposed, motion carried.
 
DISCUSSION REGARDING WAGES OF CITY COMMISSIONERS.
 
The members reviewed commissioner salaries of other local governments.  Discussion ensued regarding average amount Commissioners are paid per meeting.  Matt Kooiman calculated that average per meeting as approximately $272 per meeting.  Discussion ensued regarding Kentwood Commissioners being second highest of cities compared. 
 
Motion by Matt Kooiman, seconded by George Coffman, to recommend to City Commission to maintain the current annual Commissioner salary of $6,800 for the next two fiscal years.  None, opposed, motion carried.
