APPROVED MINUTES OF THE 50TH ANNIVERARY
OF THE KENTWOOD CITY COMMISSION MEETING
HELD FEBRUARY 27, 2017
Bowen Elementary School
 
Mayor Stephen Kepley called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M.
 
Blair Feldkamp, Bowen Principal and students led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
 
Roll Call: Present: Commissioners: Betsy Artz, Michael W. Brown, Robert Coughlin, Jerry DeMaagd, and Mayor Stephen Kepley.
 
Motion by Brown, seconded by Artz, to excuse Commissioner Haas with prior notification.
 
                                                                                    Motion Carried.
 
Seventy (70) citizens and members of the news media attended the meeting.
 
Motion by DeMaagd, seconded by Coughlin, to approve the agenda, with the following addendum: add under 6 presentations and proclamations, acknowledgement from Senator Stabenow.
 
                                                                                    Motion Carried.
 
ACKNOWLEDGE VISITORS AND NON-AGENDA ITEMS:
 
Mayor Kepley acknowledged the 50th Anniversary Committee members and legislators present.
 
PRESENTATIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS:
 
  1. COMMENTS BY LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR BRIAN CALLEY.
  2. SPECIAL TRIBUTE BY STATE SENATOR TONYA SCHUITIMAKER.
  3. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT BY U.S SENATOR STABENOW.
  4. BOWEN ELEMENTARY STUDENTS SHARE 1967 FACTS.
  5. COMMENTS BY KENTWOOD SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT MICHAEL ZOERHOFF.
  6. RECOGNITION OF COMMUNITY SERVICES TO DALE POTTER.
  7. CITY OF KENTWOOD VIDEO PRESENTATION BY WKTV.
 
ACKNOWLEDGED VISTORS.
 
Mayor Kepley acknowledged the Kentwood Community Foundation members.
 
 
 
PUBLIC COMMENTS:
 
Matt Kooiman from U.S Representative Bill Huizenga’s office acknowledged the 50th Anniversary of the City.
 
COMMENTS OF COMMISSIONERS AND MAYOR:
 
Commissioner DeMaagd-recognized residents who had lived in Kentwood for fifty years or more.
 
Commissioner Coughlin-Stated he had lived in Kentwood since 1996 and had served on several committees and commissions.
 
Commissioner Artz-Stated she was humbled and honored and impressed with the students in attendance.
 
Commissioner Brown-Stated the time he moved into Kentwood and when he served on the Commission and all of the friends he had made.
 
Mayor Kepley-Thanked all of the past people who had built a great community.
 
The meeting was adjourned at 6:48 P.M.
