Present: Commissioners: Mayor Pro-Tem Michael Brown, Betsy Artz, Robert Coughlin, Jerry DeMaagd, Erwin Haas, Steve Redmond and Mayor Stephen Kepley. Also present: City Engineer Tim Bradshaw, Finance Director Tom Chase, Economic Planner Lisa Golder, Public Works Director John Gorney, Police Chief Tom Hillen, City Clerk Dan Kasunic, Fire Chief Brent Looman, Assistant Finance Director Lorna Nenciarini, Deputy Administrator Mark Rambo, Parks & Recreation Director Val Romeo, Community Development Director Terry Schweitzer, Fire Department Administrative Assistant Nancy Shane and City Attorney Jeff Sluggett. Also present: John Weiss, Executive Director of GVMC.
- WHAT IS THE GRAND VALLEY METRO COUNCIL? PRESENTATION.
John Weiss gave a presentation on the services that the Grand Valley Metro council provides, what municipalities are in the GVMC and how they help in collaboration and cooperation within government bodies.
- 200-44TH STREET PURCHASE OPTION FOR PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT.
Community Development Director Schweitzer reviewed his memorandum dated September 30, 2015 regarding the initiate negotiations with Dave Kwekel for the possible purchase of property located at 200-44th
Street. Director Schweitzer explained the history, zoning requirements and zoning options for the property. The Committee discussed the options, questions and thoughts. By consensus the Committee provided direction to staff to continue on the possible purchase.
GRANT FOR TREE PLANTING-INFORMATION ONLY.
Community Development Director Schweitzer informed the Committee of the awarded grants from DTE Energy and Consumers Energy for a Tree Planting Program and provided a map of where the trees will be planted.
MAYOR ADDRESSES MISLEADING SATEMENTS ON CAMPAIGN LITERATURE.
Mayor Kepley addressed the issue of campaign literature and the hints of improprieties. He stated that by a resolution all excess moneys from the budget go into the Property and Building Fund, displaying transparency in City funds. He stated that a letter will go out to all of the absentee voters on the permanent list clarifying the statements made in the mailer. He went on to state that if there are any questions to ask him and to put it on a mailer is unacceptable. The City saves money so we can use it when we need it without needing to borrow the money.
