Present: Commissioners: Mayor Pro-Tem Michael Brown, Robert Coughlin, Erwin Haas, Steve Redmond and Mayor Stephen Kepley. Also present: City Engineer Tim Bradshaw, Public Works Director John Gorney, Police Chief Tom Hillen, City Clerk Dan Kasunic, Fire Chief Brent Looman, Assistant Finance Director Lorna Nenciarini, Fire Department Administrative Assistant Nancy Shane and Assistant City Engineer Dan VanderHeide.
 
 
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
 
  1. AUTOMATIC AID AGREEMENT BETWEEN BYRON TOWNSHIP AND THE CITY OF KENTWOOD.
    Fire Chief Looman informed the Committee this agreement is the same as with other municipalities and this covers only the “Cutterville” area. Chief Looman stated they currently have a Mutual Aid Agreement with them and are requesting the change to Automatic Aid.
     
    Motion by Haas, seconded by Coughlin to recommend to the City Commission to approve the Fire Service Initial Emergency Automatic Aid Agreement between Byron Township and City of Kentwood.
     
                                                                      Motion Carried.
     
    FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS:
     
  2. MONTHLY REPORTS.
     
    Police Chief Hillen reviewed the Monthly Activity Police Report for August 2015. Chief Hillen informed the Committee of the counterfeit bills that have been collected and the suspect arrested. He spoke of the skimmers that had been discovered at gas pumps and of several suspects arrested in connection with those skimmers by the Metro Team.
     
    Fire Chief Looman reviewed the monthly Fire Activity Report for August 2015. Chief Looman spoke of the car fire in the parking structure at the Airport and the equipment used for the fire. He noted that October is Fire Prevention Month and that the department will be visiting schools to educate the children in fire safety.
     
    Motion by Coughlin, seconded by Haas, to receive and file the Fire and Police Departments Monthly Activity Reports for August 2015.

    PUBLIC COMMENT:
     
    John Helder, Informed the Committee of Trader Joe’s Grand Opening, September 25th.
     
    Norma Swanson, Spoke on flow meters and the benefits to rental properties and the need to find a formal way for the City to communicate with rental property owners.
